FSWA Code of Ethics
FSWA Members have a duty to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards.
Since deception is a form of lying, it is to be avoided in newsgathering, research and article development by FSWA Members.
FSWA Members shall not accept bribes nor shall they allow other inducements to influence the performance of their professional duties.
FSWA Members shall promptly rectify any harmful inaccuracies and ensure that correction and/or apologies receive due prominence.
FSWA Members shall use fair and honest means to obtain news, information and/or documents.
|
FSWA Members may not plagiarize the work of others. Plagiarism includes the wholesale lifting of someone else's writing, research or original concepts without attribution.
This Code of Ethics does not limit the freedom of expression of FSWA Members who write, under their full name, clearly defined items in print media. The First Amendment, protecting freedom of expression from abridgment by any law, guarantees to the people through their press a constitutional right, and thereby places on writers a particular responsibility.
FSWA Members should not allow personal interest, or any belief or commitment, to undermine their accuracy, fairness or independence.
